Japan Acupuncture Study Trip with Kiiko Matsumoto
    Osaka, Japan
    December 5th-9th, 2012

Join Kiiko Matsumoto, internationally renowned acupuncturist, and practitioners from around the world
for a 5-day seminar featuring cutting-edge Japanese acupuncture masters. Kiiko Sensei has personally
selected these teachers for their clinical excellence and applicability to the Kiiko Matsumoto Style of
acupuncture. This seminar series will be highly instructive for students experienced in Kiiko Matsumoto
Style as well as other practitioners of Japanese acupuncture.

Featured Instructors:
    Matsumoto Hiromi
Mr. Matsumoto is a senior acupuncture teacher in Japan with experience that impresses us with
its deep clinical insight. Of special interest to Kiiko-style practitioners is his orientation toward hara
palpation. He may already be familiar to American/Canadian acupuncturists from his series of
articles in NAJOM. Mr. Matsumoto is a highly sought-after teacher and we are very pleased that
he will be joining us from Tokyo to share his vast knowledge.

    Tsuyoshi Shimamura
Mr. Tsuyoshi was the closest student of Master Nagano, who was Kiiko’s primary acupuncture
teacher and main influence. Mr. Tsuyoshi studied very intimately with Master Nagano until the end
of his life, and is highly regarded as a teacher and practitioner of Nagano’s unique and ingenious
style. We are fortunate to feature two days of study and clinical demonstration with Mr. Tsuyoshi,
which will be a true privilege for Kiiko’s students.

    Hideo Shinma
Mr. Shinma is a foremost practitioner and teacher of Fukaya style moxibustion. One of Master
Isaburo Fukaya’s sons, he studied under Master Fukaya for many years. Mr. Shinma places
special emphasis on treating autonomic nerve imbalances which should be of great interest to
    us.

    Tomoko Sasaki
Osaka-based acupuncturist Ms. Sasaki has been practicing acupuncture for over 10 years and
has extensive experience in TCM and pediatric acupuncture, including training in China. She
specializes in acupuncture treatment for children with colic, frequent convulsions and night
terrors, with treatment methods varying according to the symptoms, including non-insertion
needle techniques. We are pleased she will be presenting her approach to Shonishin, an Osaka
    specialty.

    Fuminori Matsuura
An Osaka-based acupuncturist on staff at Toyo Medical College, Mr. Matsuura is a Judo
Therapist, Emergency Life-Saving Technician, Dental Technician as well as Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Therapist. Mr. Matsuura specializes in Japanese reflexology and we are very excited
for what he has to teach us.

Schedule:
December 5th: Hideo Shinma (Fukaya moxibustion)
December 6th and 7th: Tsuyoshi Shimanura (Nagano style)
December 8th: Morning with Tomoko Sasaki (Shonishin, pediatric acupuncture), afternoon with
    Fuminori Matsuura (Japanese reflexology)

PDA Credits:
Approximately 28 credits pending NCCAOM approval.

Cost:
Tuition: $600 (includes five days instruction, English interpreter, and gifts for the teachers) This is
a non-profit seminar and we have worked to keep tuition as low as possible. Meals, travel and
lodging are the participants’ responsibility and you will need to research costs and budget
    accordingly.

Lodging:
We recommend staying at Tokoyo Inn in Shin-Osaka (Shin-Osaka-eki Higashi-Guchi). The hotel
is a modest yet comfortable business hotel located near the college. The estimated cost per night
is approximately $80 for a single. A light breakfast is included in hotel cost. If you would like to
double with a roommate to reduce your expense, please let us know in your application and we
can do our best to recommend a partner for you.

We may be able to arrange a block of rooms at a discount; we will communicate with trip
participants about this after completing the application process.

Travel information:
Travel arrangements and cost are the participant’s separate responsibility; make your flight
arrangements at least about 3 months in advance. We recommend flying a few days early into
Osaka to assuage your jet lag before the seminar and enjoy some of the beautiful sights and
history. Osaka is located in the southern region of Japan, a short train ride from the outstanding
cultural attractions of Kyoto.  Participants will need to budget for their own food, airfare and
    ground transport.

Deposit schedule and refunds:
A $150 non-refundable deposit is due upon accepted application (see below); the full trip balance
($600 minus deposit) is due by August 15th. A 50% refund on non-deposit amounts is available
up until September 15th, after which the trip fee is non-refundable.

Application deadline:
Space is limited to 30 participants and we expect the trip to fill up quickly. Due to the unique
nature of this trip and the number of inquiries we have received, we may need to prioritize
applicants based on seniority and level of relevant experience in Kiiko Matsumoto Style or other
Japanese styles. However, all are encouraged to apply. We will be accepting applications on a
rolling basis and encourage you to submit yours ASAP.
